Striking Statements by Medvedev

In an interview with the media, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, stated that Europe has to live under the influence of the United States. In this context, he stated that European leaders who support Vladimir Zelensky will eventually ‘go back to their stables’. Referring to his disappointment as a result of his meeting with US President Donald Trump, Medvedev commented on the question of what European leaders and countries are waiting for:

  • “They will make a lot of noise, they will show themselves on social networks, and in the end they will go back to their stables.”
  • “Europe is a cranky old woman in vital need of US tutelage.”

In addition, to the question with whom Russia should establish a dialogue and who are the interlocutors in Ukraine, Medvedev answered : “There are no normal interlocutors in the so-called Ukraine.”

Russia’s Negotiation Preparation

Medvedev emphasised that Russia is always open to negotiations to resolve the situation in Ukraine. Stating that any negotiations would mean counter steps, Medvedev said that these steps could only be in accordance with the real situation on the ground and the Russian Constitution. When asked whether Moscow would make concessions to reach a settlement in Ukraine, he replied as follows:

  • “We have always been ready for negotiations and every negotiation means counter steps. Only countermeasures that are in line with the real situation on the ground and our Constitution can be taken.”

Emphasis on Open Communication

Medvedev stated that Russia is ready to meet with those who are willing to communicate on the solution of the situation in Ukraine. Stating that they will not meet with people who work for the benefit of their masters like trained animals, Medvedev made the following statements:

  • “We can only talk to people who are ready to communicate, not to trained animals who strive for the love and feed of their masters.”
  • “We will not talk to cattle that are fed to be sent to such slaughterhouses.”
