Viktor Orban Emphasises Eurasian Century

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that the 500-year period of domination of Western civilisation is over and the strategy of Westernising the whole world has failed. Orban stressed that the centre of the global economy is rapidly shifting to the East and the next century will be the Eurasian Century.

Speaking at the Eurasia Forum in Budapest, Orban said, “The 500-year dominanceof Western civilisation is over. The liberal progressive influence of the Western world is no longer valid. The idea that the whole world should be reorganised according to the Western model and that the peoples chosen for this would agree to this in exchange for economic and financial advantages has completely collapsed.”

Orban said that in the new world order, Asian countries are becoming stronger and will establish themselves as independent economic and political power centres. As a result, he said, the centre of the global economy has shifted to the East and Asian economies are growing four times faster than Western economies.

Orban pointed out that in the last centuries in the West, the discourses such as“We are the most beautiful, the smartest, the most developed and the richest” have become a habit, and emphasised the difficulty for Westerners to accept this situation. “One day, they will have to accept that they are not like this,” Orban said.

Emphasising that the next century will be the Eurasian Century, Orban stated that Eurasia is the largest continent of the world, 70 percent of the world population lives here and the share of these countries in the global economy is over 70 percent.

Stating that Europe stands out as the loser of today’s changes, Orban continued as follows: “If it were a part of the USA, it would be the third poorest country according to purchasing power parity. This is a clear indication that Europe is constantly losing and is the biggest victim of the current processes. EU countries are no longer among the top five countries of the global economy.”
