Solution Proposals at Xiangshan International Security Forum
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Xiangshan International Security Forumin Beijing, the capital of China, Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun emphasised that double standards and the pursuit of geopolitical interests must end in the resolution of today’s international conflicts. “Promoting peace talks and political settlement is the only fundamental way out to resolve the Ukraine crisis, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and other hot issues. It is important to be fair, not pursue geopolitical interests and not resort to double standards. This is the way to win the trust of all parties and create a more favourable environment for negotiation and reconciliation.”
Minister Dong emphasised the necessity of understanding the root causes and realities in solving the problems and said: “In order to solve these problems, we must first understand the root causes and realities, and then find the keys to these problems.” Emphasising that complex international issues cannot be resolved with simple solutions, Dong said, “To overcome crises, we must adopt systems thinking, analyse the root causes and seek the root of the disease.”
The Xiangshan International Security Forum, organised annually by the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences, focuses on security cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and worldwide. The forum aims to promote inter-military dialogue and its core principles are equality, openness, tolerance and exchange of experience. The Russian delegation to this year’s forum, which takes place from 12 to 14 September 2024, is headed by Deputy Minister of Defence Aleksandr Fomin.
