Russia’s Efforts for Peace between Lebanon and Israel
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov stated that Russia is ready to support peace between Israel and Lebanon, which has been affected by the recent escalation of tensions. Bogdanov added that Russia is actively working in this regard.
“We are in constant dialogue with all interested parties on the Lebanon issue, ” Bogdanov told Sputnik. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, we are working on Resolution 1701, actively participating in all consultations, both at the UN meetings in New York and at other international platforms and bilateral meetings,” Bogdanov said.
Emphasising that Russia is always ready to contribute to the establishment of peace and stability, Bogdanov said : “In order for this process to be successful, mutually acceptable agreements that take into account the interests of the parties are needed.”
Efforts for the Release of Hostages
Bogdanov stated that Russia is also working on the release of hostages between Israel and Hamas. “We continue our contacts with both Israel and Hamas for the release of hostages, including Russian citizens. Our embassies in Doha and Tel Aviv have taken a very active role in this regard and we continue our work.”
Situation in Lebanon
On the other hand, the United Nations Interim Task Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that more than 830 thousand Lebanese were forced to leave their homes due to the escalation of conflicts between Israel and Hezbollah and tensions in the Middle East.
In UNIFIL’s statement, “Since 8 October 2023, 834,746 affected persons have been identified as displaced. Of these, 52 per cent were recorded as women and 48 per cent as men. In addition, 189,298 people have been placed in 1,100 shelters, 935 of which are fully occupied.”
