US Support to Ukraine and the Course of the War
The current President of the United States, Joe Biden, who was unable to run for re-election in the presidential election in his country and the candidate he supported lost, authorised Ukraine to use US-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) after the election results were announced. This decision was a green light for attacks on Russian territory. Following Biden’s step, it was announced that a similar authorisation was given by the UK, which caused the blocking of the treaty planned to be signed in Istanbul, which would end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Immediately after these announcements, Ukraine attacked Russian territory with US long-range ATACMS missiles.
In the aftermath of this attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasised that the attacks on Russia with Western-made long-range missiles meant that the conflict in Ukraine had now acquired a global dimension. Putin stated that the enemy’s use of long-range weapons would not affect the course of the special military operation, while questioning the international dynamics of the conflict.
Putin’s Statements and the Future of the War
Foreign Policy Expert Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent Ersin Orallı, who evaluated Putin’s statements, pointed out that the Biden administration wants the war to continue and made the following statements: “The Biden administration, after losing the power struggle between globalists and nationalists, continues to openly serve the war barons. At the moment, there is a group that wants conflicts to continue globally; this group wants no peace and continued instability. The collapse of the United States is becoming more visible in this process, and as this great hegemony collapses, it aims to take some states and global powers with it.”
Stating that the war between Russia and Ukraine should end, Orallı said: “Ceasefire negotiations should now begin and perhaps a new constitution and election period should be discussed in Ukraine. However, such an impulsive approach following the elections in the US shows that the Anglo-Saxon world order of the UK and the US does not want the war to end.”
On the Brink of Global War
Stating that the steps taken by the USA and the UK are of great importance when combined with the statements of Russian President Putin, Orallı continued his words as follows: “The ongoing power struggle in the international arena is now evolving towards a global war. Putin’s statements point to a bilateral war with regional but global effects. If NATO openly supports Ukraine and keeps troops on the ground, this will mean that NATO is involved in the war.”
Biden Administration and New US President Trump
Emphasising that the current US administration wants to put newly elected US President Trump in a difficult situation, Orallı said, “Biden has clearly dropped the bomb in the lap of Trump and the global system and has displayed an attitude that will prevent the parties from managing a restrained process.” Orallı stated that he expected Putin to follow a reasonable process in the Ukrainian context that would open the door to the possibility of a new ceasefire by refraining from shooting civilians.
In conclusion, Orallı said, “This will be an important step for the continuation of the global hegemonic system. Trump’s inauguration and a declaration that Ukraine has lost the war could pave the way for a strong negotiation process.”
