Wisconsin Man’s Mysterious Escape: Did He Fake His Death and Go to Europe?

Mysterious Disappearance of Wisconsin Man

Authorities in the United States have raised allegations that a Wisconsin man who went canoeing this summer and disappeared may have fled to Europe by staging his own death. Green Lake Sheriff Matthew Vande Kolk said they believed the man was alive and could not be found in the lake.

Ryan Borgwardt, a 45-year-old father of three, was last seen on 12 August in Green Lake, where he went fishing alone. Borgwardt, who sent a message to his wife on the night of 11 August, did not return home the next day and his family reported the situation to the authorities. Search and rescue teams found an overturned canoe and a life jacket in the lake.

In the car park of the lake, Borgwardt’s vehicle was discovered, as well as his fishing rod and wallet. Search and rescue teams, together with divers, unmanned aerial vehicles, sonar devices and dogs, carried out an extensive search that lasted 54 days. However, no body was found in the lake.

After a detailed investigation, interesting and remarkable information was obtained. Investigators found that Borgwardt’s name was registered at the Canadian border and that he had been issued a new passport before he disappeared. Borgwardt, whose passport was found at his home, was found to have deleted all his search history by changing the hard drive of his laptop before he disappeared.

It was also revealed that Borgwardt had cancelled a $375,000 life insurance policy and transferred the money to a foreign bank account. Authorities said they are continuing to search for Ryan Borgwardt, who they believe to be in Eastern Europe, and people who could help him escape by faking his death.
