Malcolm X’s Family Files Lawsuit Over Assassination

The family of US black Muslim activist El Hajj Malik al Shabazz (Malcolm X) took an important step regarding the assassination of Malcolm X on 21 February 1965 during a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem. The family filed a $100 million lawsuit against the US Government, the CIA, the FBI, the NYPD and the Department of Justice, accusing them of failing to take precautions even though they knew in advance that the assassination would be organised.

Ben Crump and his team, representing the living family members of Malcolm X, announced the lawsuit at the ‘Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Education Centre’ on the day Malcolm X was assassinated 59 years ago. “We are formally announcing our $ 100 million lawsuit against the US government, FBI, CIA and NYPD, who we believe conspired to kill Malcolm X, one of the greatest thought leaders of the 21st century,” Crump said in a statement.

Lawyer Crump stated that in the last three years, every day, every week and every month, they have uncovered new evidence that will clarify the murder of Malcolm X. This situation draws attention as a factor that increases the seriousness and importance of the case.

Shabazz recalled the events that played an important role in the assassination, sharing tragic moments such as the recent arson of their home and a bomb attack on the daycare centre where she and her sisters attended. “On behalf of my 5 sisters, I am grateful to be standing here with a group of skilled and ethical experts, legal experts, as we seek justice for the assassination of our father, and for the truth to be recorded in history.”
