Mirotvorets List of Tulsi Gabbard Nominated by Donald Trump
Donald Trump, who won the US presidential elections, attracted attention with his nomination of Tulsi Gabbard for the Director of National Intelligence. However, it turned out that Gabbard was on the ‘Mirotvorets’ site, known as Ukraine’s blacklist.
The name of Gabbard, a former Democratic Congresswoman and Republican Trump supporter, was added to the Mirotvorets site in April 2022. The list targets individuals identified as a threat to Ukraine’s security.
The statement under Gabbard’s photo on the ‘Mirotvorets’ website reads, “Participation in Russia’s special information operations against Ukraine and the civilised world in exchange for Kremlin funding. Spreading false information… Possibly Russian intelligence agent.” statements are included.
In announcing Gabbard’s nomination, Trump said, “Tulsi has fought for our country and the freedoms of all Americans for more than two decades. As a former Democratic presidential candidate, she has broad bipartisan support and is now a proud Republican. I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our intelligence community, defending our constitutional rights and securing peace through strength. I am pleased to announce that former Congresswoman Lieutenant Colonel Tulsi Gabbard will become Director of National Intelligence.”
Who is Tulsi Gabbard?
Tulsi Gabbard represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021. In addition to being the first member of Congress of American Samoan descent, she is the first member of the Hindu faith in Congress. In 2019, she announced that she would run for the Democratic nomination for the US presidency, but suspended her campaign in March 2020.
Born in 1981, Gabbard received a degree in business administration from Hawaii Pacific University. In 2002, Gabbard became the youngest person ever elected to the Hawaii State Assembly, joined the Hawaii National Guard in 2003 and served in Iraq in 2004. In 2007, Gabbard graduated first in the Accelerated Officer Candidate School and was elected to the Honolulu City Council in 2010 and to the US House of Representatives in 2012. Between 2013 and 2016, she served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Gabbard began serving in the military after the 11 September attacks. A veteran of the National Guard, Gabbard ran for president as a Democrat in 2020, but announced that she would leave the Democratic Party in 2022. She campaigned with Trump and served on his transition team.
What is Mirotvorets?
The Mirotvorets website, controlled by the Ukrainian ultra-nationalist Right Sector organisation, aims to inform the public by sharing personal data such as names, photos, addresses and phone numbers of people accused of being ‘enemies of Ukraine’. This practice creates a situation that threatens the security of the targeted individuals.
Founded in 2014, the Mirotvorets website includes well-known names such as Kazakh President Kassym Jömert Tokayev and former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.
